Spotify goes to audiobooks -

After podcasts, the leader in music streaming services is opening up a new type of content, that of audiobooks.

One way for Spotify to diversify its offer and therefore to attract more and more subscribers.

It is also an opportunity for the Swedish service to compete with platforms such as Apple Book and Audible from Amazon.

At present, the Swedish service's audio library is still small, with only 9 audio books.

Spotify has nevertheless been particularly well surrounded to launch into the audiobook market since it has called on several celebrities, including actor Forest Whitaker who reads

For all subscribers

Each book is accompanied by a presentation in the form of a podcast “Sitting with the Classic on Spotify”, produced by the streaming platform and hosted by Harvard University professor Glenda Carpio.

Audiobooks are available to all subscribers - Premium or not - around the world, but it will be imperative to master Shakespeare's language to benefit from them since audiobooks are currently only available in English.

This is not the first time that Spotify has entered the audiobook business.

The Swedish service had already embarked on the adventure a few months ago, with the publication of an audio version of the first volume of Harry Potter read by several actors and actresses, including Daniel Radcliffe.

With the publication of these 9 new audiobooks, Spotify is showing its desire to launch more concretely in this market.
