Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, who was imprisoned for two years and six months in prison for being implicated in the Gukjeong Nongdan case, has been convicted.

Park Young-soo's special prosecutor's team announced in an official statement on the afternoon of the 25th that it has decided not to reappeal the decision of the Seoul High Court against Lee on the 18th.

The special prosecutor said, "We judged that the ruling of the'Equestrian and Gifted Center support bribery case' sentenced by the 1st Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court was based on the purpose of the decision of the Supreme Court's all-encompassing body."

Vice-Chairman Lee said earlier this morning, "We have decided not to humbly accept this verdict and not reappeal."

As the two sides decided not to reappeal today, the legal deadline for re-appealing the ruling on the revocation court ruling against Vice-Chairman Lee, the trial for Vice-Chairman Lee seems to be concluded approximately four years after being prosecuted in February 2017.

Vice-Chairman Lee was arrested in February 2017, was sentenced to probation at an appeals court in February of the following year, and served for one year until he was released.

The special prosecutor said, "It is light in the light of the recognized crimes and sentencing standards that the sentence of two years and June of imprisonment to the accused Lee Jae-yong, who was sentenced to 9 to 5 years imprisonment, etc., was light but should be used as the reason for appeal. It does not fall under the possible offenses and there are no other legitimate grounds for appeal,” he explained.

At the same time, "therefore, among the cases indicted by the special prosecutors, the'Equestrian and Gifted Center support bribery case' and'Jung Yu-ra University entrance examination irregularities and non-sun medical treatment cases' were ended, and the'blacklist case for exclusion of support in the culture and arts industry' was also sentenced by the Supreme Court. He evaluated that the purpose of the special prosecution law to find out the truth of the'Gukjeong Nongdan suspicion case by a civilian' was actually achieved.

The special prosecutor also said, "We will do our best to maintain prosecution so that the'blacklist case for exclusion of support from the culture and arts industry', which is currently in the process of revocation and repatriation trial, can be quickly sentenced according to the purpose of the Supreme Court ruling."

In addition to this, the special prosecutor said, "Even though the conclusions of the second trial of'the case of ex officio abuse and disposition related to the merger of the National Pension Service' are all the same, they have not been sentenced until more than three years after being filed in the Supreme Court." According to the purpose, I am fervently requesting that the Supreme Court will sentence you as soon as possible.”
