Three days after the violence that mourned the Capitol and shook America, Donald Trump now finds himself totally isolated, potentially under the impact of a new impeachment procedure, but also deprived of Twitter, his favorite communication channel.

The social network struck a blow by announcing to suspend "permanently" the account of the Republican president, sounding board of Trumpism and tool on which it built its political rise.

After suspending his account for 12 hours on Wednesday, Twitter said it was taking this unprecedented measure in the face of “the risk of new incitement to violence”.

"After careful consideration of recent @ realDonaldTrump tweets and the current context - including how they are interpreted (...) - we have suspended the account indefinitely due to the risk of further incitement to violence" from the outgoing US President, explained the company in a press release

Recluse in the White House

Donald Trump used another account, that of the US Presidency (@POTUS) to reply.

“Twitter has gone even further in its muzzling of free speech, and tonight Twitter employees coordinated with Democrats and the radical left to remove my account from their platform, to silence me - and YOU, the 75,000,000 great patriots who voted for me, ”wrote the outgoing president.

But this message was also almost immediately deleted by the platform.

Recluse in the White House, it is precisely from a tweet, laconic, that he had earlier announced that he would not attend, contrary to tradition, the investiture ceremony of his successor.

This symbolic post will remain the last from @ realDonaldTrump and its roughly 88 million subscribers at the time of its suspension.

Dropped by a number of Republican tenors

Under fire from critics, accused of undermining institutions and adding fuel to the fire, Donald Trump tried Thursday evening to calm things down, marking a spectacular break after weeks of inflammatory rhetoric.

In a video message, the tempestuous president had finally admitted his defeat, even if he never cited - let alone congratulated - his Democratic successor Joe Biden.

He also denounced “an odious attack” on the Capitol, without ever mentioning his responsibility in this tragedy which has permanently tarnished the image of America throughout the world.

Some of his critics believe the easiest way would be for the 45th President to shut up and de facto leave Vice President Mike Pence in charge until January 20.

For Jeh Johnson, former homeland security minister, anyone with a little influence over Donald Trump should send him a simple message: “Get on Air Force One, go to Mar-a-Lago and stay there.

The Wall Street Journal

, owned by tycoon Rupert Murdoch, who was an ally of Donald Trump, also called on the latter to take responsibility and resign.

A first senator, Lisa Murkowski, did the same, saying: “I want to see him go.

Two members of the government have also resigned in recent days ...
