Our court ruling that the Japanese government compensates the victims of comfort women by 100 million won per person.

Until now, victims of comfort women have filed several lawsuits for damages against Japan, and the first ruling came out acknowledging Japan's responsibility.

First, reporter Ahn Hee-jae will share with you today (8th) the contents of the judgment and whether you can actually receive money.

Eight years after 12 elderly women victims of comfort women came to the court for compensation from the Japanese government, the court sentenced "The Japanese government should pay 100 million won per person to the elderly."

This is the first time our court has admitted that Japan is responsible for the comfort women issue.

The judge pointed out that "the comfort women victims suffered from unprecedented comfort stations in Japan."

The Japanese government did not accept the “principle of exemption from sovereignty” as the basis for refusing the trial, that is, the logic that a sovereign state cannot stand in the courts of other countries.

"As Japan committed anti-humane acts, it is not subject to sovereignty exemption," he pointed out.

The 1965 Korea-Japan Claims Agreement and the 2015 Korea-Japan Comfort Women Agreement were also nailed to the point that they did not affect the victim's right to claim compensation.

[Kim Kang-won / Grandmother victim of comfort women's litigation representative: I am very impressed.

Japan, which is proud of itself as a civilized country, has not even solved such anti-human and anti-civilization things so far...

As the Japanese government has said it will not appeal, the ruling is expected to remain as it is.

If the Japanese government does not fulfill its liability after the judgment is finalized, it may proceed with the seizure procedure.

In fact, in Japan's compulsory conscription trial, our court ordered Japanese companies to seize assets in Korea, but the seizure of Japanese government assets like this time may be realistically impeded.

For this reason, the victim's grandmother's agent asked me to focus on the implications of this sentence, despite the fact that it would struggle with the enforcement procedure.
