The Ministry of Justice will hold the Amnesty Review Committee today (21st) at the Government Complex Gwacheon to discuss the selection of special pardons.

The pardon judges are composed of 4 internal members of the Ministry of Justice, including Minister of Justice Chu Miae (Chairman), Vice Minister of Justice Lee Yong-gu, and Prosecutor General Shim Jae-cheol, and 5 external members.

When the Amnesty Review Committee selects a person who is eligible for a special pardon, the Minister of Justice reports this to the President, and the President exercises the right of pardon through a resolution of the State Council.

As for the special pardon, former mayor of Daejeon, Kwon Seon-eon, who was convicted of an illegal pre-election campaign, was mentioned, and former Prime Minister Han Myung-sook was reportedly excluded.

There are observations in the legal community that President Moon will announce a special pardon around Christmas on the 25th.

Earlier, it was reported that the Ministry of Justice made a list of detainees subject to special pardons in front of prisons and detention centers last month and reported them.

Until now, President Moon Jae-in has exercised his right to pardon three times.
