In addition, when Cho was inaugurated as chief civil servant of the Blue House, he was also charged with embezzling 150 million won by making a new investment through a private equity fund operator and making a false consulting contract with the operator in order to avoid the ethics regulations for public officials that prohibited direct investment. The prosecution also applied a charge against Professor Jeong for destroying evidence, as it believed that Professor Jeong was involved in removing his home and the PC of the Tong Yang University laboratory by ordering Kim Gyeong-rok, an asset manager.



The prosecution at a decision hearing on the 5th of last month defined the case as a ``passion between academic background and wealth,'' and announced to the court that Professor Jeong would be sentenced to 7 years in prison.



Accordingly, Professor Chung argued that the Tong Yang University citation had never been forged, and that there were some exaggerations, but not manipulated.



The allegations related to private equity funds were also denied, such as claiming that it was not an investment but only a loan, and that the allegation of concealing evidence was unintentional.



At the same time, he claimed that the prosecutors' investigation was conducted with a confirmation bias, and that the prosecution's investigation was an excessive'target investigation' aiming at the fall of former Minister Cho.
