The next person who treads the moon could be a woman.

Nasa has announced that as part of its Artemis project, which aims to send new astronauts to the Moon in 2024, nine of the 18 shortlisted people are women, reveals BFM-TV.

The project provides for the construction of an on-site base

On Wednesday, US Vice President Mike Pence presented a list of 18 astronauts shortlisted for these future missions.

With the goal that in 2024, a man and a woman will set foot on the Earth's satellite.

Among the names revealed are some seasoned astronauts, such as Stephanie Wilson, several space flights on the clock or the one who holds the record for time spent in space (for a woman), Christina Koch.

But more novice astronauts are also part of the selection, like Kayla Barron, who will fly for the first time outside our planet, underlines our colleague from BFM-TV.

This moon landing project involves the construction of a base on the Moon.

This flight to the Moon will be the first since 1972.
