On December 5, 1620, Archpriest Avvakum was born - one of the most prominent figures of the Russian Old Believers. He became the author of over 80 theological, epistolary and polemical works, some of which are recognized as monuments of Russian literature of the 17th century. For the Old Believers, Avvakum to this day remains an iconic figure and is revered by them as a holy martyr and confessor.
