The miniseries 'Carmel: Who Killed María Marta?', From Netflix, reviews in four chapters all the events related to the strange death of the Argentine María Marta García Belsunce de Carrascosa

The 'true crimes' are fashionable on television.

Remembering how a

real murder was and raising doubts

based on the statements of people related to that death has many viewers hooked.

The last 'true crime' to arrive was

Carmel: Who killed María Marta?

.

We tell you what it is about and why this Netflix miniseries has been

successful according to the '5 W rule'

(the acronym for what, who, when, where and why in English) that is used in journalism.

WHAT IS CARMEL?

A

four-episode documentary series

that has become one of the most viewed productions on Netflix in recent months.

Carmel is also the

name of a residential area in which a crime was committed 18 years ago,

the causes of which, to this day, have not been fully clarified.

The miniseries, directed by the documentary maker Alejandro Hartmann,

lasts approximately four hours.

'Carmel' is one of Netflix's biggest recent hits.

Family, friends, journalists and even the prosecutor in charge of the case parade through it, trying to show all possible points of view.

The didactic nature of this documentary is evident when graphics and archive images are included that explain (and repeat, so that no one is lost) all the facts related to the

"García Belsunce" case.

WHO IS MARÍA MARTA GARCÍA BELSUNCE?

The

woman murdered in Carmel.

María Marta Belsunce, the wife of Carlos Alberto Carrascosa (whom we see in this documentary explaining 'his' interpretation of the events), was a sociologist who had appeared on television on some occasions.

His death, in principle due to a domestic accident, is full of unknowns

.

Nobody knows what happened, but no hypothesis is ruled out.

Carlos Carrascosa, María Marta's widower, appears in this documentary.

A committed and vitalist woman, as family and friends recognize, her work as vice president of an NGO,

Missing Children

, dedicated to combating kidnapping and trafficking of minors was not well regarded by some people.

That, together with the large amounts of money that her husband had amassed in the bag and that they supposedly hid at home, could confirm a

perfect motive for a robbery

.

The only certainty is that she was an important figure in her social circle and that her

media case

made her an object of follow-up by readers and viewers in Argentina.

WHEN WAS THE CRIME COMMITTED?

On October 27, 2002

, the same afternoon in which a soccer game was played between River Plate and Boca Juniors, the game of the year for many Argentines.

That encounter tends to attract the attention of fans and paralyzes the entire country.

María Marta was returning home after having done sports.

And it was

in the bathroom that her husband found her lying and asked for help on the phone.

Everything else is confusing: if she was dead or not when her husband saw her, if there were more people in the room, a report full of errors and the (later) confirmation that

María Marta was shot on several occasions and did not die for a domestic accident.

WHERE DID IT ALL HAPPEN?

In the

bathtub of the chalet

where the married couple Carlos Alberto Carrascosa and María Marta García Belsunce lived.

During the four Carmel episodes there are two names that are repeated incessantly: one is

'pituto'

, the invented word with which María Marta's brother calls a bullet found at the crime scene.

María Marta García Belsunce, the murdered woman, was a vitalist sociologist.

The other is

Carmel Country Club

, the real name of the compound in the province of Buenos Aires where the house where María Marta lived is located.

Chalets with swimming pools,

security 24 hours a day and an intense social life

of its inhabitants are the features that define this exclusive space, free from strange looks.

WHY DID THEY KILL MARÍA MARTA?

Without falling into the spoiler, to find out what happened that afternoon in 2002, you

have to stay to see the final credits

of

Carmel: Who Killed María Marta?

... or not.

This is how intriguing this extensive and rigorous documentary is presented that mixes journalism and entertainment and that has become

one of the most viewed productions in Argentina.

And in half the world.

The death of María Marta happened at the exclusive Carmel Country Club.

A platform as global as Netflix has not hesitated to present the 'García Belsunce' case as if it were a fictional series, no matter how much it was a real case.

Here

are possible suspects, script twists

and a heightened tension by the soundtrack.

And why did they kill her?

For that you have to see it whole.

Money, judicial corruption, power struggles,

envy, family problems ... Everything is possible.

According to the criteria of
