The driver was arrested by the police after striking a passerby and pretending to be a witness.



Today (20th), the Western Police Department in Gwangju announced that it was arresting and investigating Mr. A in his 70s, who is accused of fleeing and lethal under the Act on aggravated punishment for certain crimes.



According to the police, Mr. A hit a passerby B while driving a car on the road inside an apartment complex in Dongcheon-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju around 6:30 pm on the 18th.



However, instead of taking responsibility for the accident, Mr. A immediately called the 119 control room and asked for help, stating that he had witnessed a hit-and-run accident.

Mr. B was taken to the hospital by 119 paramedics, but he died.



After an overnight investigation, the police who received the case caught a clue that Mr. A was the perpetrator, and then Mr. A confessed to his crime.

Police estimate that Mr. A was not drunk at the time of the accident.



The police are planning to secure evidence to support Mr. A's confession by requesting an autopsy of the body and a detailed inspection of the vehicle to the National Institute for Scientific Investigation.

The policy is to determine the direction of the recruitment treatment for Mr. A after understanding the exact case.
