In April 2020, a rapid burst was detected for the first time within the Milky Way.
On Monday, November 16, scientists indicated in an article published in the journal
Nature Astronomy
that it had repeated itself, reports

These are bursts of light associated with radio waves, lasting around a few milliseconds observed by astronomers.
If the sources of these rapid bursts are unknown, the scientists named the one observed last April, the first inside our galaxy, "SGR 1935 + 2154".
He was also the first to be associated with the presence of a magnetar, or neutron stars that have a very strong magnetic field.

With the repetition of this rapid burst, scientists now want to learn more.
In particular, they want to analyze if it is similar to those detected outside the Milky Way and to identify the process at the origin of this source.
Moreover, specialists believe that the perceived signals could come from different physical processes, within the same magnetar.
"The detection of a greater number of SGR 1935 + 2154 radio bursts, as well as a more detailed characterization of its activity levels, may help to understand whether this is really a source of radio bursts. rapid, similar in physical nature to the sources of rapid extragalactic (repeated) radio bursts, ”the scientists explained in the published article.
