Nintendo is one of the few companies to have benefited from the coronavirus crisis.

During periods of containment, players rushed to the Switch, to the point that the console was even, for a time, out of stock.

With 68.3 million copies sold on September 30, the Nintendo Switch has just exceeded sales of the NES, reports

And that, only three years after its marketing.

Other consoles in the line of sight

In the last quarter, Nintendo recorded the sale of 6.86 million Switches, an increase of 43% compared to the same period last year.

Between April and September, the figures are even more impressive: 12.53 million consoles were sold, an increase of 80.9% compared to the same period in 2019.

In the 1980s, the legendary NES had won 61 million buyers.

The Switch has therefore taken a good head start.

It now remains to overtake the other Nintendo consoles.

In line of sight: the 3DS and 2DS series which have sold 75.94 copies since their launch or the Game Boy Advance (81.51 million copies sold).

Objective even more difficult: to exceed sales of the Wii, which reached 101.7 million copies, or those of the Game Boy / Game Boy Color with 118.69 million consoles sold.

The Nintendo DS, released in 2004, as well as all its variations, seems unattainable: since its launch, 154.88 million copies have been sold.
