NASA is strongly opposed to the project to launch a constellation of satellites by the company AST & Science and it makes it known.

The American space agency has written to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to

express

its concerns on this subject, reports an article by

This is the first time that NASA has publicly opposed such a project from a private company.

Maneuvers to avoid collisions

The objective of the company AST & Science is to launch a constellation called “Space Mobile” of 240 satellites to provide a 4G and 5G connection.

But the US space agency fears collisions with its own satellites.

And for good reason, AST & Science wants to put its devices at 720 kilometers above the Earth, an altitude close to that of NASA's A-Train satellites.

The agency says that would require him to perform no less than four maneuvers to avoid collisions.

In addition, NASA fears that failures occur on the satellites of the constellation "Space Mobile" because of the lack of experience of this company in this field.

Now, it is up to the FCC to decide this matter.
