The 2nd Criminal Division of the Jeju District Court (Chief Judge Chan-soo Jang) sentenced 81-year-old A to 6 years in prison, charged with violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (forced harassment by kinship).
Mr. A was handed over to trial on charges of committing obscene acts three times until April 2018, including masturbating in front of a granddaughter who was 10 years old at the time in July 2017.
The victim's guardian, Mr. A's son, submitted an agreement saying he wished for a good cause, but the court did not admit that it was not able to know the proper settlement process for the agreement.
The judge said, "The guilt is bad, such as causing mental pain for a granddaughter who should grow up properly and have sexual values," explaining the reason for the sentence and saying, "It is very difficult to be forgiven and I hope you reflect on it a lot as a crime against humanity." .
