On the 19th, a report of the occurrence of larvae was received in a house in Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do, and environmental authorities confirmed the site. As a result, larvae were found in the Gangjeong water purification plant, which supplies tap water, and Gangjeongcheon, the source of water intake.

As larvae were found in the tap water in Seogwipo City, the Ministry of Environment held an emergency video conference with Jeju-do Deputy Governor Cho and Korea Water Resources Corporation on the morning of the 21st, presided over by Minister Cho Joong-rae, and checked measures to block the spread of larvae and the response situation.

As a result of the investigation, it is presumed that the larvae were found in the Gangjeong Water Purification Plant, which supplies tap water to Seogwi-dong, and Gangjeongcheon, the source of water intake, and moved to the home through a water pipe.

The Gangjeong Water Purification Plant is operated by rapid filtration, and no larvae were found during the inspection in July.

The Ministry of Environment dispatched a larvae occurrence precision epidemiological investigation team to Jeju Island to investigate the cause of the occurrence, prevent spread, and discuss measures such as monitoring methods.

In addition, although there are 2 generations of larvae outbreaks so far, we plan to provide full support for early recovery of the situation as it may occur additionally.

In Jeju Island, if larvae are found in tap water, they are advised to refrain from drinking directly and report it to the Waterworks Headquarters or Water and Sewerage Department immediately.
