Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myeong, who was accused of publicizing false information related to'forced hospitalization for his brother's brother,' was finally acquitted at the revocation trial on the 16th.
The judge said that the remarks at the debate in question could not be regarded as actively revealing false facts, and that "no new evidence has been presented," following the purpose of the Supreme Court judgment.
After receiving the ruling, the governor said, "I pay homage to the judgment of the judiciary, the last bastion of democracy."
The 2nd Criminal Division of the Suwon High Court (Judge Deputy Chief Justice) was acquitted at the hearing of the Governor's destruction and repatriation, which was charged with the public official election law.
The judge ruled, "If you look at the contents of the debate's remarks, you can only evaluate it as an answer to the question of the other candidate raising suspicion, but it cannot be viewed as an act of publicity that is actively and unilaterally publicized."
After the trial, Governor Lee said, "I pay homage to the wise judgment of the judiciary, which is called the last bastion of democracy and the last bastion of human rights protection." I want to spend time with him.”
When asked about the presidential election, he added, "What is called the presidential election means that the people decide what role to entrust our workers, who are representatives," and added, "I will do my best in the role that grants me."
Governor Lee was charged with instructing the head of a health center and a psychiatrist to be admitted to a psychiatric hospital when he was in office in Seongnam Mayor.
In addition, he was also charged with false remarks (publication of false information under the Public Official Election Act) by remarking with the effect of "I never tried to force my brother to be hospitalized" at a TV debate ahead of the 2018 local election.
Unlike the first trial, which judged all these as innocent, the second trial considered guilty of the public official election law related to'forced hospitalization for the brother-in-law' as guilty and sentenced the governor to a fine of 3 million won, which is equivalent to invalidating the election.
In July, the Supreme Court Allied Council broke the court case and sent the case back to the Suwon Go Law with innocence.
