Han Jun-ho, a member of the National Assembly's Science and Technology Information Broadcasting and Communication Committee, and Democratic Party member Han Joon-ho, announced today (15th) the details of the'EBS Media Character Business Headquarter Transfer Plan' received from EBS.

The main content is that the EBS headquarters transferred the licenses for a total of 7 characters, including Pengsoo, from the subsidiary'EBS Media' to the headquarters in November last year.

Pengsu, who appeared in April of last year, has grown into a popular character loved by both children and adults with a clear view of the world and'mild taste' that does not cross the line.

Since then, it has established itself as a filial character of EBS, creating tremendous added value through brand marketing as well as the content itself.

In addition to Pengsu, the fart leader, Bong Bong, Bonnie Hani, and Lightning Man, were all born in EBS Media, an EBS subsidiary.

These characters earned about 10.5 billion won from November last year to September this year through advertising models, sponsorships, image licenses, and licensed product businesses.

This is comparable to EBS Media's 2019 total sales (11.7 billion won), but since the entire character business was transferred to the headquarters in November last year, it is not counted as a subsidiary's profit.

In addition, theme parks, kids cafes, space performance business, EBS program-based books, and publishing businesses such as FM language were also transferred. It was said that the expected sales project worth KRW 10 million was transferred to the headquarters.

Rep. Han Jun-ho said, "EBS is a public broadcasting company that focuses on responsibility and EBS Media is a profit-generating subsidiary."

However, EBS President Kim Myung-joong, who attended the government office on this day, refuted that he did not think that it was a shame, saying, "EBS Media has not been able to find a profit model for 8 years and has not helped the headquarters."
