Yesterday (13th) daytime, a 16-month-old baby was taken to the hospital with a bruise and severe injuries all over her body and died.

The police initiated an investigation when a medical staff suspected of child abuse was reported. Let's connect reporters to hear more details.

Reporter Kang Min-woo, tell us what happened.

<Reporter>

Yes, it was about 12:20 noon yesterday when the police filed the report.

Parents in their 30s brought a 16-month-old girl who had suffered from cardiac arrest to the hospital's emergency room, and medical staff reported suspected child abuse to the police.

There were bruises on the baby's body, and it is said that the head and collarbone were severely injured.

The police decided to investigate the abuse through an autopsy and applied for an autopsy warrant to the court.

The policy is that if the autopsy reveals the abuse situation, parents will be investigated.

There was a report last month that the baby seems to be being abused?

<Reporter>

Yes, it is.

The couple had adopted and raised a baby earlier this year, and on the 23rd of last month, the police filed a report of suspected child abuse at another hospital that was treating the deceased baby.

At the time, the police investigated the parents, but the case was not.

In addition, the deceased baby was classified as a case management target by a local child protection agency.

Case management is an action when you have or are concerned that there may be child abuse.

If it is confirmed as a death due to child abuse, the police who investigated the report of abuse last month and the specialized child protection agency that observed the family are expected to raise voices demanding clarification of why active preventive measures such as separation measures were delayed.
