Yesterday (8th), 3 of 8 mother pigs shipped from this farm to a slaughterhouse in Cheorwon were found dead.

As a result of the quarantine authorities conducting a close examination for ASF and African swine fever, it was finally confirmed as positive this morning.

In August, the carcass of a wild boar that was confirmed ASF was found in a hill 250m from the farm.

Gangwon-do has decided to kill about 940 pigs raised on this farm and 1,520 pigs from two nearby farms.

It has been only one year since a confirmed case of breeding pigs occurred in a farm in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi-do on October 9 last year, and this is the first time in Gangwon-do.

Unlike foot-and-mouth disease, which has a preventive vaccine, pig farms are unable to hide their anxiety because there is no vaccine or treatment for swine fever.

[Kim Yeon-chang/Gangwon Cheorwon-gun Handon Association Vice President: I heard that the farm that has now been revealed is a farm that was doing very well in quarantine, but I don't know how (infection) it was.

It is very confusing and anxious.]

The quarantine authorities issued an order to temporarily stop moving pig farms, slaughterhouses, and feed factories in Gangwon and Gyeonggi areas for 48 hours starting from 5 am today.
