A couple was killed Friday morning in Bourg-en-Bresse (Ain) aboard their car, which was hit by a TER at a level crossing, we learned from the firefighters.

The accident happened shortly after 10:30 am when the level crossing was closed as the train approached.

The victims' vehicle then found itself on the track, they said, confirming information from France 3 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

The precise circumstances of the accident, in this case the presence of the vehicle on the tracks, were not communicated, nor the identity of the two victims. No injuries are to be deplored, however, in the TER, which carried around twenty passengers according to firefighters, from Bourg-en-Bresse to Oyonnax, according to SNCF. The latter again indicated that traffic was closed for the day
