The late president of the Korean Medical Association, who raised suspicion of corruption in military service by the late former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, Park Joo-shin, was handed over to trial on charges of defamation.

The second part of the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office (Chief Prosecutor, Kwon Sang University), earlier this week prosecuted Chairman Choi without custody for defamation against Mr. Park.

Chairman Choi raised suspicion that Park tried to avoid active duty with false data, saying that the X-rays submitted while entering the Air Force in 2011 and the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) photos submitted for reexamination were of different persons. .

Yang Seung-oh, head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Southeastern Atomic Energy Academy, who was first prosecuted on similar charges as Chairman Choi, was sentenced to a fine in 2016 and appealed.

The first trial judged that "the agent did not intervene in Park's medical imaging," and that the allegations of corruption in military service were not true.

Chairman Choi disclosed Mr. Park's MRI photos and was also investigated for violating the Personal Information Protection Act, but the prosecution said that the related data had already been disclosed to the outside, and dismissed the charges in August.
