In June, a report came in to the Office of the Hearing Audit Office of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.

It was said that Inspector A, a member of the detective section of a police station in downtown Seoul, approached the person involved in the case and received money to favor the assault case he was in charge of.

The hearing and auditing officer's office began to determine the authenticity, and identified the circumstances in which Inspector A received 1.7 million won from the person concerned in the case.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Intelligent Crime Investigation Unit switched to investigation, and Inspector A was lifted from his position.

[Police official: He was deposed as of June 8, 2020.] As a

result of the three-month investigation, it was further confirmed that Inspector A received money from other people involved in the case in addition to 1.7 million won.

In the past, Inspector A was in charge of a case where a construction worker died in an accident in Gangseo-gu, Seoul.

The police said that Inspector A had been handed over 30 million won from the people involved in the case, and applied bribery charges and arrested in the middle of last month.

A police official said, "The circumstances in which Inspector A actually viewed the case in an advantageous position was not confirmed, and the case was handled normally."

The police are planning to hand over the case to the prosecution at the end of last month and begin the disciplinary process for Inspector A sooner or later.
