In the morning of today (8th), a pig farm in Sanae-myeon, Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon-do, received a suspicion of ASF, that is, African swine fever, and the result of the first real-time PCR test was positive.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock Quarantine and Quarantine, it was confirmed that two pigs shipped by the Haejang farm died at a slaughterhouse in Cheorwon-gun at around 8:30 am today.

In addition, two pigs raised on the farm were also confirmed as positive as a result of the first real-time PCR test.

The farm is home to 940 pigs, and dead boars infected with ASF were found 250 meters from the farm.

The Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock Quarantine Headquarters collects specimens of dead pigs and conducts a second close inspection, and the final results are scheduled to be released around 4 am to 6 am tomorrow.

The Quarantine Headquarters and Hwacheon-gun will kill all 940 pigs raised by farmers if they are confirmed positive for ASF.

In addition, we plan to immediately install a control post and enforce movement restrictions for farms belonging to the quarantine zone.

If the results of a close-up test are confirmed as positive for ASF, the possibility of the African swine fever virus spreading again in domestic pig farms after the first outbreak in a pig farm in Paju, Gyeonggi-do on September 16 last year has increased.

Inspection before slaughter of pigs shipped from the farm confirmed that two of them died.
