Once the Yoon Chang-ho Act was enforced in December 2018, if a drunk driving fatal accident occurred, it was possible to imprisonment for more than three years or up to life imprisonment.
Unlike the one-year prison sentence in the past, it has been strengthened a lot, but in reality, it is rare to be sentenced to medium sentences.
According to the Supreme Court's sentencing criteria, it is recommended that a sentence of 2 to 5 years for drunk driving deaths and 4 to 8 years for serious illegality can be sentenced.
In addition, it is recommended that a maximum of 12 years in prison can be sentenced for matters that are likely to be criticized, but there has not been a case of a 12-year sentence yet.
In June, the Busan District Law sentenced a driver in his 60s to a driver in his 60s who was killed in a drunk driving accident, and this was the highest sentence ever known.
It is said that drivers are less alert because only the laws are in place and strict punishment is not punished.
