  • Technology: the trick to use WhatsApp in incognito mode without anyone knowing

WhatsApp groups have gone from being a useful tool to keep up to date with children's homework and to continue talking with former schoolmates, to becoming a real nightmare.

At first they were used to share essential or relevant information, but today they are an amalgam of memes, more or less sensationalist articles, funny videos and hundreds of images with flowers that wish good morning.

No matter the time, the notifications ring during the little head of noon on any given Sunday, at work and even at dawn.

Time to silence the group.

This same radical solution can be used for that contact that forwards absolutely everything that reaches the messaging application.

The guy would have been a gold mine for the Cambridge Analytica company because of the level of diffusion.

For these extreme and common cases, WhatsApp offers the option to silence for eight hours, a week or a year.

If the phone is Android, just press, from the main chats menu, the conversation of the person or group that you want to silence, select the icon with a crossed-out speaker and choose the option that suits us best.

In the case of iOS, it is accessed from the same chat, by clicking on the contact and selecting Silence.

Since this option exists, many users of the messaging network have asked that the silence be extended for more than a year, basically forever until the user himself wishes to activate the notifications again.

A request that you have ignored until now.

This option, still in development, will be available in the next updates of the application.

For now, those who have beta version 2.20.201.10, which can be obtained from the Google Play test program, are the only users for whom this function is available, which will replace the mute option for one year.

Same account on multiple devices

In addition to the permanent reviewable silence, another of the demands of hundreds of users is to be able to use the same WhatsApp user on several devices at the same time (in addition to the option of using WhatsApp Web).

Apparently, the application will soon allow the use of the same account in up to four different terminals, according to the specialized medium WABetainfo.

In addition, this function would bring with it another advantage, that of being able to use the messaging network on another device (tablet) or in its web version without the need for the main terminal to be turned on.

This will be possible because the chat history will be migrated between devices, with end-to-end encryption of course, as was the case with chats and other personal data of the user.

They also anticipate that there will be a new graphical interface for the desktop version.

More protected messages

As we have explained previously, WhatsApp messages are end-to-end encrypted, this means that only the two interlocutors will be able to read the messages.

In principle, not even the company itself would have access to them unless a court order issued by a federal judge in the United States says otherwise.

Although there is a way to bypass so much security.

When conversations are saved in the cloud, for example when a backup is made and uploaded to Google Drive, this encryption disappears.

A circumstance that can be used by a third party to access the conversations without shame or court summons.

Aware of this, WhatsApp is working so that in the future, to access the application data stored in the cloud, a password must be entered.

It would be something optional but it would increase security for users.

Burn after reading

In addition to messages that self-destruct after a while, the messaging app is working to extend this feature for images, GIFs, and videos.

Thus giving the definitive leap to the temporary exchange of all kinds of information.

Various screenshots of version 2.20.201.1.

suggest that when the file is shared, a new icon will appear which, if selected, will start a countdown, showing the expiration of the file.

As with other platforms such as Snapchat, this function will be used on many occasions to exchange images or videos with sexual content.

Taking into account that there are applications that allow you to see deleted WhatsApp messages, the best thing is that when sharing this type of information and intimate content, we take this into account.
