Google Maps: a new option for pedestrians -

Geeko

For several weeks, the Mountain View firm has been making numerous improvements to its mapping application.

After integrating traffic lights, displaying the extent of natural fires in real time or even displaying covid-19 infections by country, Google Maps is preparing to integrate a new interface designed for in-car navigation.

This is good news for many drivers who do not have a car equipped with a connected dashboard.

Spotted by Android Police, the new interface was designed to allow users to follow a route while easily accessing various applications.

Easy access to third-party applications

A small box thus appears at the bottom of the screen, the navigation pane.

It displays a microphone to trigger Google Assistant, as well as a symbol to open a new window.

By selecting it, a new page opens with various shortcuts;

calls, messages, Spotify, etc.

By selecting YouTube Music or Spotify, for example, a new banner is displayed on Google Maps with shortcuts to stop or advance in the music.

Finally, to return to normal navigation, just press the Maps symbol.

It is difficult to know when this new version of Google Maps will be available to all users.

In any case, this update should be appreciated by the users, although one might wonder if all these banners will not make navigation more complicated since they take precedence on the map.
