Police Commissioner Kim Chang-ryong said on the 3rd of the month following the opening day that some conservative groups will cut off a rally in downtown Seoul, which is preparing to be held, by operating a'triple checkpoint'.

Commissioner Kim held a videoconference with the national police command at the Police Office in Migeun-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul today (25th), saying, "We plan to completely block illegal assemblies on the first day with the maximum amount of police force and equipment using all the powers permitted by law."

Commissioner Kim said, "We will operate a checkpoint with a triple blocking concept in the order of Seoul Clock (city boundary), Gangsang (on the Han River Bridge), and downtown areas to block entry into the downtown area." I will block it thoroughly.”

The police decided to operate a total of 95 checkpoints in traffic areas such as Yangjae IC (Clock), Hannam Bridge (Gangsang), and Namsan 1 and 3 tunnels (city area) at the end of the Gyeongbu Expressway during the opening day.

This checkpoint serves to filter out vehicles carrying people who may be protesting in downtown Seoul.

In addition to the 95 checkpoints, the police decided to deploy police officers at major intersections.

Regarding the'drive-through' vehicle demonstrations planned by some conservative groups, Commissioner Kim said, "There is a risk of the spread of Corona 19 infection during the preparation and dissolution process, and there is a great concern about serious traffic communication disorders and traffic accidents." Likewise, we will strictly respond by blocking entry to urban areas by applying the triple blocking concept.”

He added, "Illegal vehicle protest drivers will be punished by arrests and fines, as well as suspension and cancellation of their driver's license."

Commissioner Kim said, "The act of holding an illegal assembly while ignoring the police's prohibition notice despite the risk of spreading Corona 19 is a serious crime that threatens the safety of the community." We must never tolerate quarantine disruption.”

He continued, "If an illegal assembly is enforced, we will promptly proceed with the dissolution procedure, and participants who do not comply with the dissolution order will be arrested on-site." We will follow up to the end and punish without exception.”
