The official name of the KEPCO University of Technology, which is scheduled to open in 2022, has been effectively decided as'Korea Energy Engineering University'.
Although the English name is undecided,'KEPTECH' (Captech), a combination of KEPCO's English name, KEPCO (Kepco) and Technology (technology), is known to be influential.
According to the KEPCO Establishment Promotion Committee, etc., on the 5th of next month, the board of directors of the KEPCO Institute of Technology will be held and the name of the university will be decided as'Korea University of Energy Engineering'.
Earlier last month, the KEPCO Establishment Promotion Committee and KEPCO Establishment Team applied for this name to the Korean Intellectual Property Office for trademark registration.
After the board of directors' resolution is completed, the committee plans to get the name of the university confirmed by the Pan-Government Establishment Support Committee of the KEPCO University of Technology.
For the name of the university, the final candidate was decided among several names from consulting companies without borrowing the form of public offering.
It is known that'KEPCO' and'KEPCO' are excluded from the judgment that it is inappropriate to include a specific company name in the university name.
In addition, as the purpose of establishing the school in the English name emphasized the'future energy research platform', we are also reviewing a plan to include'Science' like'POSTE' of Including Technological University.
The KEPCO University of Technology, which will be created as an eco-friendly campus with a total area of 400,000 square meters, is currently designing the school building with the goal of opening in March 2022.
The university has 1,000 students (600 graduates and 400 undergraduates) and 100 professors, and 620 billion won is invested in establishing the university.
