The Catalan actor stars in 'Uno para todos', a melodrama in which he gets into the shoes of a substitute teacher who faces problems in his class

In

One for all

,

David Verdaguer

(Girona, 1983) is Aleix, a

temporary teacher who must take charge of a sixth grade class

in an Aragonese town.

There, teaching classes will not be the greatest of your problems.

A student who has been on sick leave due to a serious illness is going to return to class and no one seems to want that return to occur.

Along with Verdaguer appear in this

melodrama directed by David Ilundain

(

B

) actors such as Patricia López Arnaiz, Clara Segura, Betsy Túrnez and, in a small role,

Miguel Ángel Tirado (comedian best known for his character as Marianico "The short").

Verdaguer, who

won the Goya for Best Supporting Actor in 2018

for

Verano 1993

, is a well-known character in Catalonia for his work on programs such as

Crackòvia

and

Polònia

and series such as

Zoo

and

Pop ràpid

.

In cinema he is a

regular in independent productions such

as

10,000 km

, the aforementioned

Summer 1993

and

The days to come

.

Don't you think her character is a very particular version of Mary Poppins? Oh yeah?

(laughs).

Well, I hadn't thought about it.

But it is true: Aleix, like her, arrives at a place where there are problems, changes things and then sees herself.

Well, yes, it would be a less fun Mary Poppins (laughs), although I have always thought of

One for All

as a western based on what my character does.

After all, you are in a town like an outsider, in your jeans and walking alone through its streets. Do you think the teachers will like to see the good image that this film gives of their profession? I hope so.

This movie is for people to thank teachers because it shows what they do.

And how well they do it, because people of culture and education already know that we are almost always the last monkeys. How much has your way of seeing teachers changed over the years? A lot.

And it is logical.

When you are young you see the teacher as someone whose life begins and ends in a classroom.

You can't imagine him in other areas of your life, at home or doing other things.

You only see him as "the one who is cool", "the pimp" or "the one who approves you for sure".

Then, when you are older, you remember them because you value their work and you realize that they mark you for good in your professional future.

In my case, that was what happened in my Interpretation studies. Don't you think that, before, teachers were left to "command and control" and now empathy and understanding of their students prevail? A teacher now shares many points with an actor.

For example, you have to tell a story or sell a product to a group of people.

The difference between the two is that the teacher has an audience that has no desire to be there.

Going to class would be the equivalent of seeing a play whose entrance you have not paid, you are not interested and you have not asked to do it (laughs).

If you still manage to keep them hooked, it is a success.

Aleix (David Verdaguer) in the class he attends as a substitute teacher.

The final section of

Uno para todos

is emotional.

How was that part of the shoot? Exciting.

The children who participated in this film experienced everything as if it were some kind of wild camping.

Above, for having filmed in summer, to take advantage of their vacations.

And with infinite patience, because making movies can be very heavy for little ones.

And in that part that you tell me they really cried, thinking that they had created a family and it was time to separate. How was the experience of shooting with children? Well, it is tiring, but it has been very positive.

You have to work it out a bit so they don't overreact.

The good thing is that we came from a perfectly created script and with no other pretensions to show an imperfect teacher.

Something very good in his job that does not know how to manage his private life.

Anyway, I think it's great how David Ilundain, the director, has managed the story so that there are several protagonists depending on the moment.

And there is a different love story, drama, humor, hard topics such as bullying or loneliness of adults ... By the way, what was it like to meet Miguel Ángel Tirado or, rather, Marianico "The short one"? Well, notice that I didn't recognize him at first.

He introduced himself with his real and non-artistic name and I greeted him without falling into who he was.

But, hey, it was sitting with him in the makeup room and thinking: "but if I saw him with my grandmother in

Don't laugh, it's worse

!"

You don't know the hugs I gave him then (laughs).

He is a great one who has gone through many stages.

It is what this job has, that you go from much to little and from sleep to hunger.

In the film, Miguel Ángel is a wonderful actor. Have you already been to a cinema to see that there are two of his films,

Salir del roper

o and

Uno para todos

, on the bill?

So said, it seems that I did not stop.

But it's been a long time since I made them!

I will have to look for that cinema, take that picture and then tell my daughter: "Look how daddy drinks the rooms" (laughs).

The little one whose return after an illness will revolutionize the class of the protagonist.

What is the best memory you have of

Salir del wardro

? Having worked with Rosa María Sardá before she passed away.

I met her years ago at a play in which we both participated.

We get along very well and it's normal: she was a funny, sarcastic and intelligent woman.

I love people who make me laugh.

And he loved her very much.

She will be greatly missed.

The good thing is that it will always be. How do you get bad reviews when they come? In general, I try not to read reviews because they affect me a lot.

But I love them when they are justified.
