Last June, voice tweets appeared on Twitter, allowing some users (on iOS) to post a voice message instead of a written post.

The social network is now testing private voice messages.

Trials are currently taking place in Brazil, according to social media specialist Matt Navarra.

This option already existed in the Facebook galaxy with Messenger and WhatsApp, but had not yet been inaugurated on Twitter, reports Presse-Citron.

A "thread" of audio messages

These private voice messages are limited to 140 seconds, like tweets limited to 140 characters.

When the allotted time is exceeded by the user, a new recording starts, creating a "thread" of audio messages.

A "record" button now appears to the right of the conversation window.

The new functionality could in particular allow visually impaired people to communicate better on Twitter.

On the other hand, it excludes the hearing impaired, such as the option implemented in June.

Twitter had already, at the time, indicated that it was working on a solution to set up a system of captions.
