Today (11th) around 3:50 am, a report was filed by the Coast Guard that a 6,300-ton special purpose ship had caught fire at 57km south of Maemuldo, Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do.

There were 49 Koreans, 10 Vietnamese, and 1 Italian on board the ship, which installed the submarine optical cable, but fortunately there was no human injury.

The Coast Guard said that all the crew were able to evacuate with a private tugboat nearby at around 4:30 am, about 40 minutes after the report was received.

However, it is said that the lights on the ship have not yet been turned off.

After securing a statement that a fire has started near the engine room, the Coast Guard plans to investigate the exact cause of the fire with the crew and others as soon as the fire is extinguished.
