Twitter said on Tuesday on its blog to wish "to provide more background information about trends" whose social network delivers a list in real time still very observed.

The company announces that some of the topics on the most popular topic list now come with pinned tweets and explanations showing why they are attracting so much user interest.

No more having to scroll through Tweets to find out why something's trending.

Starting today, some trends on Android and iOS will show a Tweet that gives context right away.

These additional information appeared on the social network on Tuesday, said Liz Lee, head of product reliability at Twitter, and product manager Frank Oppong.

They are currently available on mobile apps for smartphones under Android and iOS but will soon be visible on the platform's website.

In addition, only users from fifteen countries, including France, will have access to it.

A tweet representative of a trend

"A combination of algorithms and choices made by our content curation team decides whether a tweet is representative of a trend by determining whether it is a good reflection of the trend and whether it is popular", detail the specialists .

The process was imagined with the desire not to highlight the publications posted by user accounts "trying to take advantage of our system", confirm Frank Oppong and Liz Lee.

Tweets likely to be spam or convey inappropriate messages are also excluded from the system.

As for the descriptions to explain the appeal of a theme, they “will provide a clearly sourced and direct context”.
