On the night of August 31, 1935, Aleksey Stakhanov, a miner from the Donbass Tsentralnaya-Irmino mine, produced 102 tons of coal per shift at a rate of 7 tons. Stakhanov's record received all-Union fame, and as a result, the Stakhanov movement arose in the USSR. Throughout the country, workers, collective farmers and other professions sought to maximize labor productivity.
