The war continues between TikTok and Donald Trump. The blow this time comes from the Chinese application, threatened with ban in the United States by a decree of the current tenant of the White House. The video-sharing platform announced on Saturday that it will launch a legal response in the coming week.

The WeChat application concerned

"To ensure that the law is respected and that our business and our users are treated fairly, we have no choice but to challenge the decree through the court system," said the company. Without tangible proof, the American president has accused TikTok for months, owned by the Chinese group ByteDance, of siphoning off data from American users for the benefit of Beijing. Donald Trump therefore, on August 6, prohibited the application from any transaction with American partners within 45 days. A similar decree targets the WeChat platform, which belongs to the Chinese giant Tencent.

TikTok, which had already threatened to take legal action against this decision, therefore plans to implement its threat in the days to come. "Although we do not agree at all with the accusations of the US administration, we have been seeking for nearly a year to engage in good faith discussions to find a solution," said the application. "But instead we encountered a lack of respect for legal procedures insofar as the administration pays no attention to the facts and tries to interfere in negotiations between private companies."

TikTok did not specify in which jurisdiction it plans to sue or on what exact grounds.
