An electric car has just proven that driving 1,000 kilometers on a single charge is now possible. Of course, special conditions were needed, but for the CEO of Hyundai Motor France, the main thing was to prove that the technology is more and more efficient.

For many, it is a barrier to buying an electric car: autonomy. However, traveling more than 1,000 km in an electric car with a single charge is now possible! This is a first and this record has just been achieved by Hyundai's 100% electric SUV. Obviously, it took very specific conditions to establish this record. Several pilots succeeded each other for three days in order to achieve this. But beyond the "demonstration" aspect, it is proof that electric cars are more and more efficient.

On track at 30km / h on average

"Passing this psychological milestone of 1,000 km shows how accessible this technology is," said the CEO of Hyundai Motor France. The idea was clearly to make an impression: to drive more than 1,000 km in 100% electric power, it is therefore doable with the Kona, a production model. But the pilots who took turns scrupulously respected eco-driving techniques, did not activate the air conditioning despite the 29 degrees and drove, on the track, at 30 km / h on average.

"Electricity is not just a constraint"

The main thing for Lionel French Keogh, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor France, was to demonstrate that when driving in the city, autonomy should not be a brake, and that the power of the battery is not everything. "In a purely urban situation, I do not have to charge the vehicle every day, even every week. It is a question of demonstrating that the electric is not simply a constraint with this obligation to find a charging station. recharge ", underlines the director. "It is also so that consumers have the reflex to look at the consumption of the electric car, as they did before when they looked at the consumption of gasoline or diesel cars."

Obviously, driving at 130 km / h on the highway, impossible to reach 1000 km ... in any case, for the moment, since this is what Tesla promises in the coming months for its future model, the Roadster .
