Instagram has long ensured that content deleted by users is completely removed from its servers within 90 days. However, a cybersecurity researcher recently discovered that this was not the case, reports TechCrunch, relayed by 01net .

Saugat Pokharel managed to recover messages and photos that he deleted more than a year ago. The independent researcher has requested a copy of his data from Instagram. Among them, he found a lot of data that he had deleted much more than three months ago.

The researcher receives 6,000 dollars

Faced with this situation, Saugat Pokharel warned Instagram officials in October 2019. The independent researcher went through the "bug bounty" program, which aims to offer a financial reward to people who find bugs or security breaches in the application.

Thanks to this, Saugat Pokharel received 6,000 euros from Instagram. Regarding the deletion of data on the servers of the social network, Instagram ensures that everything has been back to normal since the beginning of August.
