this rainy season, 9 people have died or disappeared so far due to a landslide. The soil and stones swept down from the mountain, or'soil and pomegranate,' increased the damage. To prevent this, the Korea Forest Service is installing an all-around dam as you see now in areas vulnerable to landslides. However, although Sabang Dam has a great effect of preventing landslides, its budget is decreasing as the years go by.

Why is that? Reporter Park Chan-beom covered the scene.

This is a village near the vulnerable area of landslide where the Sabang Dam was installed more than 10 years ago.

All stones and dirt from the mountain are blocked by the dam.

As the landslide occurred, a mass of rocks larger than trees and human bodies was floated. As such, the enormous amount of soil was blocked by the dams and the speed of drifting was reduced, so that the village's private houses did not hit.

The amount of soil swept down alone reaches 15 tons and 300 trucks.

[Lee Dong-gyu / Villager: There was a thundering sound. That's how it was ruined as you can see behind here. Sabang dams played a big role up there.]

Sabang dams had a great effect on landslides during this record rainy season.

[Chung-Sik Woo/Researcher, Forest Disaster Prevention Research Division, National Institute of Forest Science: The area where the Sabang Dam is installed has little damage. It prevents large stones, trees, and soil from the collapse from flowing into the village... .] I

went to a nearby village where there is no Sabang Dam.

The landslides fell about 1km from the landslide and covered all fields.

Even in areas where there is a high risk of landslides around private houses, more than half of the total risk areas are not installed with dams.

There were no dams in all areas where people were damaged by this landslide.

The problem is lack of budget. The budget for the Sabang Dam project is decreasing year by year, but this year's budget is also half the level of two years ago.

Sabang dams to be installed have also dropped below 300 for the first time this year.

[Gu Gyeong-hoe/Chungbuk Forest Environment Research Institute, Forest Civil Engineering Team Leader: We are focusing on urgent needs because the budget is limited, and there are places where we really need it, but we are promoting projects in the following year.]

Unexpected concentration due to global warming As heavy rains and typhoons can come, it is pointed out that it is urgent to install an all-round dam in areas at risk of landslides across the country.
