Inundation of houses and agricultural land in the downstream areas of the Seomjin River, including Imsil, Sunchang, Namwon, and Jeollanam-do and Gyeongnam, continued.

The victims claim that it is because the Seomjin River Dam discharged too much water at once.

[Im Yeong-ju/Yoodeung-myeon, Sunchang-gun, Jeonbuk: If I had to send water downstream before the beam bursts, this problem would not have occurred. .]

In the early morning of the 8th, when the dam water level exceeded the planned flood level due to torrential rain, the Seomjin River Dam Management Team opened all 19 sluice gates and sent 1,860 tons of water per second downstream.

Yongdam Dam also discharged 3,000 tons of water per second from the 8th, causing flood damage in Muju, Jeollabuk-do, Geumsan, Chungnam, and Yeongdong, Chungbuk.

The Korea Water Resources Corporation, however, said that there was no problem with the dam management, and attributed the flood damage to heavy rain.

[Kim Bong-soo/Director of Operation of Korea Water Resources Corporation's Seomjin River Branch: Even if record rainfall came and exceeded the planned flood volume, we adjusted it so that there was no damage to the downstream within the planned discharge amount.]

However, the dam focused on water use rather than flood prevention . Some point out that the management caused the damage.
