Currently, there is a lot of rain in the central region, so I am worried about the damage. Then, I will talk with reporter Seo Dong-gyun, the current situation and the reason for the prolonged rainy season.

Where is it raining a lot right now?

<Reporter>

Currently, heavy rains are in effect in the metropolitan area including Seoul, Yeongseo in Gangwon and the west coast of Chungnam.

In particular, heavy rain warnings are in effect in the southeast and southwestern regions of Seoul, and in Yeoncheon and Paju, Gyeonggi-do, but there is still heavy rain in these areas.

In the case of Gyeonggi and Gwanak in Seoul, there was a lot of rain more than 50mm an hour at a time in the morning, and other rain in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province is around 30mm an hour.

In particular, in the case of Paju and Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi-do, the cumulative precipitation was only 100mm due to rain that fell overnight.

Then, what was the reason that it rained so much at once?

<Reporter>

It is the influence of the rainy season front that moved to the northern part of Gyeonggi Province and the vicinity of Hwanghae Province from yesterday (31st), because the warm North Pacific high pressure in the south, which was unable to use throughout the summer, extended the force and raised the front of the rainy season.

As a result, heat waves have begun in the southern part of the country, and heat wave warnings are in effect in some areas of Yeongnam and Busan.

And in Busan and Gyeongju, the temperature has already exceeded 33 degrees and it is showing very hot weather.

The reason for the heavy rain in the central region is that water vapor is flowing along the edge of the high pressure of the North Pacific Ocean, which has pulled the rainy season front, and the atmosphere has become unstable as the cold air meets the northern air.

rainy season itself is getting very long now, but I am curious as to why the rainy season has become so long and what will happen in the future.

<Reporter>

As of yesterday, the rainy season in the central region has exceeded 70 mm, the average precipitation during the rainy season.

The reason why the rainy season is prolonged is that the northern Pacific high pressure, which has to pull up the rainy season front, was stronger because the cold air force in the north was stronger than the normal year, so the rainy season in both the central and southern regions became longer.

The rainy season in the central region is today the 39th day, which is a much longer period than usual.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts that the rainy season will last for more than 10 days.

The central rainy season was the longest on the 49th of 2013, but if the rainy season continues as forecasted by the Korea Meteorological Administration, this year will be the longest rainy season.

In the future, the weekend is Gobi, but as the rainy season goes back and forth between the North and the South, I will spray a lot of rain from 50 to 80 mm per hour in Seoul, the metropolitan area, Yeongseo in Gangwon, and the west coast in Chungnam.
