Android: several apps spy on users - Geeko

Despite the security measures put in place by Google, the Play Store regularly offers infected applications without its knowledge. This is how Avast experts identified eight particularly intrusive apps.

Here is the list of 8 problematic applications:

  • Track Employees Check Work Phone Online Spy Free
  • Spy Kids Tracker
  • Phone Cell Tracker
  • Mobile Tracking
  • Spy tracker
  • SMS Tracker
  • Employee Work Spy
  • Family Employee Monitor

In fact, these eight applications clearly display their objective, namely the collection of geolocation data, SMS or even the address book, or even the call history. But these apps could be installed on a “target's” smartphone without them knowing it, in order to follow their conversations or their movements. An obviously illegal process that prompted Google to remove the eight applications from its Play Store after Avast informed it.

Vigilance is essential

With over 140,000 downloads, the number of potential victims is significant. If they are no longer listed on the Play Store, apps may persist on phones. This is why it is important to verify that they are not installed on your device. Note that they are discreet and therefore do not appear in the list of apps on a phone. You will have to go to the Android storage manager to study the list of all the apps installed on a smartphone to be able to locate one of these apps and delete it.
