40 hours . That is the total time that Robert Ringo , a hiker from the city of La Quinta (USA), remained with a broken leg in Joshua Tree National Park , in California, until the rescue services found him. They were almost two days of waiting with a broken femur, motionless in rocky terrain, where the only thing that occurred to him was to record himself with an uncovered cell phone asking for help.

There, once he realized the situation, he tried to recover but, according to what 'News Channel 3' has collected, "the pain was incredible . " Without any way to indicate help, he began to record himself even without knowing if he would come out alive. His only scream, which can now be seen through a video he has sent to the American media, was "Help, help!" .

The rescue

His family began looking for him last Friday after hours incommunicado. There was no coverage, but Ringo had an idea that he repeats every time he goes on an excursion and that ended up saving his life: "Of course there was no service, but I had tagged my location and shared it with my son Ryan before I left. That's something that I always do. "

Until the rescue services arrived, he had to become a real Bear Grylls : the water he carried with him ran out of him immediately and he satiated his hunger with "some juniper berries". His spirits, however, never ran out: "I never got to the point where I thought 'I'm not going to make it.' I just had confidence and faith . "

In the end, it was on a plateau at nine o'clock on Saturday morning when he finally heard a search and rescue helicopter . To those rescuers, whom he calls "angels," he owes "life": "I am grateful that if they had never found me, it would have been devastating for my family."
