A gendarme is suspected of killing Thursday evening his 45-year-old companion with a firearm in the gendarmerie barracks of Bailleul (North) before turning the weapon against him, we learned Friday from a police source.
The gendarme "is very seriously injured," the source told AFP, saying that the tragedy had happened "against a background of separation". If the investigation confirms that he is the author, this case could bring to at least 38 the number of alleged femicides since the beginning of the year, according to an AFP count. In 2019, AFP recorded at least 126 cases of women killed by their partner or ex, i.e. a woman every three days on average.
