Reports of insects that appear to be larvae appearing in the tap water in Incheon are increasing. The contaminated activated carbon filter in the water purification plant is considered to be the cause, but there is no clear method except to completely drain the tap water that has already been supplied.

Incheon City started supplying bottled water after a complaint that the caterpillar larvae had emerged from the tap water and a complaint that it was impossible to use tap water.

There were close to 200 reports of tap water larvae received until today (16th), but reports were received from all areas of Incheon excluding Ongjin-gun.

[Residents of Seo-gu, Incheon: Three or four birds come out at first, but it was disgusting and was quickly discarded. And again, this comes out again.]

Eggs were mixed with larvae.

Incheon city said there were no cases where larvae were found in other water purification plants besides Gongchon Water Purification Plant, but there are reports of larvae coming out from Gyeyang-gu, where water is supplied from Bupyeong Water Purification Plant.

[Han Jin-wook/Incheon Gyeyang-gu: I was doing this (shower) with the water. It's very steamy. It's pretty steamed right now. You can't use water though.]

As caterpillars were found in the activated carbon filter of the Gongchon Water Purification Plant that supplies tap water, experts believe that there was a problem with the management operation.

[Professor Koo Ja-yong/Chairman of the Korea Waterworks and Sewerage Association: In the building that manages activated carbon, screens (or not properly installed) must be removed from time to time, and various problems such as lack of management ability or lack of personnel are compounded.]

Incheon City All of the existing tap water that is likely to have been discharged has been discharged and the reservoirs and water pipes have been cleaned, but the extent of the damage and how long it will take before the larvae are removed is unknown.
