Manuel Montalvo defines himself as someone with few words. Perhaps that is why he shoots his sentences bluntly and forcefully, thus awakening the attention of the more than 130,000 followers that he already accumulates on his Instagram profile. "Ever since I was little, I have heard that the less you talk, the less you are wrong," he says.

Since he burst onto the literary scene, this Madrid writer who has just published his eighth novel, When you don't expect anything, everything happens (The Sphere of Books), has continued to add new readers. In his opinion, synthesizing an emotion in a few characters is not necessarily easier or more expensive than managing to give background and form to a series of characters with their respective plots on paper. It is simply different. "Everything has its complexity. A long story requires a lot of time and dedication. You have to create a plot with all that it entails. But a phrase that encompasses a general feeling can only be achieved in a moment of full inspiration."

That "general feeling" he refers to translates into a black and white image on his social networks. A shot that speaks of love and heartbreak, also present in other of his novels: The damn mania to love you and I was a normal girl . Often drawn from their own titles, the phrases that feed their Instagram are short stories that are easy to identify with and that do not obey any guidelines or scripts, but rather at the moment.

At times as a source of inspiration, at times as contact with his readers, in his virtual community there is no place for haters , something that, according to him, he confesses, makes him feel lucky. "It is easier to criticize when you hide behind a screen of a device," he argues. "I have always thought that bravery, for many, goes hand in hand with distance . Do you think that up close they would have the courage to say what they think so freely? I encourage people to share their thoughts, but always with respect and empathy. Hate is food for those who are not really hungry for anything. "

Despite his intense activity on social networks, Montalvo assures that he has always been more than 'face to face'. Hence I advocate showing a reality that corresponds to what you really are. "Short distances are more consistent than words that shoot into the air," he concludes. "Whoever wins at short distances wins in life . "
