Launched in late summer 2019 in the United States, Apple's Independent Repair Provider (IRP) program is now expanding to Canada and Europe, the firm said in a statement. this Wednesday.

By integrating this device, French independent iPhone repairers can now benefit from the same spare parts, tools or repair manuals as an Apple Store. In the United States, the IRP program has already attracted more than 140 repairers.

Not the same guarantee

There are no fees for volunteer repairers and Apple training is free. At the end of this period, the independents will be able "to carry out various repairs of iPhone out of warranty, in particular screen and battery replacements," the firm said in a press release.

Apple reserves the right to refuse a repairer's "application" without having to justify itself. "The manufacturer will not retain applicants using Apple's trademarks in their names or web pages, unless such use is in accordance with the conditions applicable to Apple trademarks," said Mac Generation .

This is good news for iPhone owners because repairs are often less expensive in these stores. Only downside: they will not benefit from the guarantee for 90 days, like that which exists in the shops of Apple, according to an internal memo of the company that  Mac Generation obtained.
