Apple has filed a patent for a keyboard with glass keys for its Macs, according to the Apple Insider website . The project is called "Transparent Keycaps". According to the documents, the American firm would have opted to cover the keys of the keyboard of its computer with a layer of glass.

This choice would be guided by the desire to make the keyboards more resistant, while providing them with a more aesthetic appearance. The letters printed on the keys would therefore be placed under the layer of glass, thus preventing them from being erased with use.

The novelty of the backlight

Apple has also chosen glass to allow the backlight to be installed on the keyboard. Enough to add a bit of aesthetics for a brand that likes to care for its products. Thus, "[...] the cap can change color more dramatically if the lighting [...] changes color," wrote the brand to present its patent.

For the moment, Apple has made no comment on this patent and nothing indicates that we could soon see glass keyboards on its products. But the American giant could try a solution that combines aesthetics and durability: we remember the Butterfly keyboards that had posed reliability problems for the brand.
