In total, 25 fraudulent applications that covered a large part of the functions that an average user does with their mobile phone and that the company of French cybersecurity, Evina, specialized in fighting fraud through the internet.

The modus operandi: Facebook as a vehicle

These fraudulent applications have a common origin . All of them were in charge of registering what applications the user was using on their mobile phone.

In the case that it was Facebook, these applications ordered the phone to open a false screen for the user to enter their username and password. This screen overlaps the legitimate Facebook screen to try to avoid raising suspicions .

When the mobile owner enters their username and password on the fraudulent login page (which has been generated by these malicious applications) they are sent to a remote server from the attackers.

In this way, it is possible to complete the theft of Facebook credentials without raising great suspicions.

The symptoms
