Tony Hudgell , just five years old, has managed to multiply exponentially the goal that was initially set: raise funds for the London children's hospital that saved his life , the Evelina. Inspired by the story of Captain Tom, he set out to walk 10 kilometers with his prosthetics during the month of June and now he has broken the schemes: from 500 pounds to 1,240,000 (about 1,400,000 euros). "I am speechless," said his adoptive mother.

Little Tony, a native of Kent, was abused by his biological parents when he was a baby. "Her limbs had been broken, she had suffered a blood trauma to the face, sepsis, multiple organ failure and they never waited for her to survive, " her adoptive mother, Paula Hudgell , told Reuters . When she met him at Evelina Children's Hospital, at just four months old, Tony was fighting for his life. "We didn't want him to go anywhere else, he was our little boy by then." She and her husband ended up adopting him in 2016 .

The big challenge

Now Tony's goals are different. Give the favor back to the hospital that saved his life, one of them. That is why the challenge of walking with his prosthetics a daily minimum of 300 meters and raising funds for the Evelina was proposed. What he has achieved, his adoptive mother has suggested, is "absolutely incredible": 10km and over 1 million pounds.

Tony got the idea for the challenge after seeing Captain Tom Moore, 95 years his senior. The British war veteran managed to raise more than six million euros for public health in the fight against the coronavirus by walking in his garden.

The next challenge in his life is still uncertain, he is only five years old. But in the long run , Reuters has collected his statements, he is determined to become a policeman . "I want to handcuff bad people and thieves."
