A five-year-old child was seriously injured Wednesday evening after being run over by a two-wheeled vehicle that was doing a rodeo in Vaulx-en-Velin, in the metropolis of Lyon and it did not stop, we learned from consistent sources. The accident occurred around 9 p.m. in the sensitive Mas du Taureau neighborhood, police said.

According to the Lyon public prosecutor's office, the child was crossing the road by bicycle when he was run over by a motorbike which immediately fled. His vital prognosis is on, adds the prosecution. He suffers from a head trauma and a brain hemorrhage, according to a police source.

Local residents exasperated by rodeos

The investigation was entrusted to the Road Accidents and Offenses Brigade (BADR) of Meyzieu. In mid-May, a policeman had been injured in Seine-Saint-Denis, trying to intercept the participants of a rodeo gathering around thirty two-wheelers on the highway.

At the end of May, the Minister of the Interior Christophe Castaner entrusted two deputies with a reflection mission in order to develop a new plan to fight against urban rodeos. Because with confinement, the exasperation of local residents has gone up a notch.

Urban rodeo is punishable by two years in prison

A collective of residents has thus set up in Bron, another commune in the Lyon suburbs, and their petition has obtained more than 1,000 signatures. "The rodeos motorcycles, rodeos scooters or cars follow each other at all hours, day and night" and "generate stress, anxiety, insomnia, pollution", writes the "Collective of the inhabitants of Bron-Terraillon in search of tranquility".

Since a law of 2018, the urban rodeo is an offense punishable by two years in prison and a fine of 30,000 euros, which gave a legal basis to the police to intervene in this area.
