WhatsApp now allows you to send money to friends - Geeko

After several months of testing in India, the possibility of making payments via WhatsApp is now ready to conquer the world, starting with Brazil. The functionality is obviously based on the payment method developed by Facebook, owner of WhatsApp, namely Facebook Pay.

In fact, the functionality will allow WhatsApp users to quickly make in-app transfers to their contacts, but ultimately, Facebook would like to be able to offer this service to merchants. If the use of the functionality is free for individuals, this will not be the case for professionals. Facebook will take a commission on transactions made on WhatsApp from a user to a merchant.

Facebook intends to generalize this new service

It is unclear at this time whether this new payment option will appeal to WhatsApp users. Some may be reluctant to enter their banking information in such an application, but security systems should logically be put in place; PIN code, digital or facial identification, etc.

Currently deployed in Brazil, the functionality should land in France in the coming weeks or months.

Integrating the functionality within WhatsApp is just the first step for Facebook. The American company has already indicated that it wants to integrate it into its entire ecosystem, including Messenger and Instagram.
